I have owned a 1941 Chevrolet Sport Sedan for a number of years. I have a picture of the car which was taken out at the Mason City airport in front of a B 17 WW II bomber of the same vintage.

My Chevy has only 27,000 miles on it and has received its Grand National Award given by the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America). It has been fully restored as close as possible to the manner in which it was originally manufactured.

The 1941 Chevrolet was totally redesigned after 1940. Running boards and door hinges were concealed. Headlights and parking lights were set flush into the front fenders.

Its six cylinder, overhead valve engine boasted 90 horsepower. Its vacuum column shift was unique to Chevrolet. It was the last year of full production automobiles prior to WW II. Model year production exceeded one million cars, a record for GM.

Harley Earl was at that time the renown designer for General Motors. The car was the third restyling in as many years and resembled the larger and costlier Buick which he also designed. As the war was raging in Europe, the engine was called the “Victory Six.”
